DO I HAVE TO PICK MY POISON ?

As the month of March rolls on and the promise of a warm April seems within grasp , it got me thinking about the constant debate. Sun vs Sun Screen. We have all heard the warnings…the ozone layer is getting thiner, the sun rays are stronger, the sun is more dangerous… but how dangerous is the sun, really? Are the risk factors of commercial sun screen and chemicals more dangerous then direct unprotected exposer to the sun?

Over time the sun’s ultraviolet light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin. When those fibers break down, the skin begins to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to bounce back into place.

There seems to be a general consensus that prolonged exposer to the sun can have serious adverse health risks including:
Sunburn
Pre-cancerous skin Lesions
Wrinkles
Discolored areas of the skin (sun spots)
Telonglectasias-the dilation of small blood vessels under the skin
Elastosis- the destruction of the elastin and collagen found in skin tissue
Skin Cancer-the most common of all cancers today

Researchers found that if sun screen was used regularly by children age 6 months through 18 years, there would be a 72% reduction in cases of skin cancer found nation wide.

So, that seems like a no brainer, right? Well….not so fast-

It may come as a surprise to many to learn that sunscreen can be very damaging to the skin and in some cases the chemical makeup of sunscreen can pose a more serious health risk then sun exposer alone.

For many years irresponsible cosmetic companies endorsed chemical sunscreens without sufficient levels of safety testing. Over the past fifteen years, scientists who study cancer related illness concluded the chemical compound of many sunscreen formulas may actually increase the risk of skin cancer. The reasons stated, the chemicals found in many over the counter sun screens have free radical generating properties as well as strong estrogenic actions that may lead to serious health risks.

So damned if I do….damned if I don’t!

Not necessarily, at Oohla Acive Organics we have developed an all natural,non- toxic sun screen safe for children and adults! We are so excited to share our unique organic beauty products with you! Now you can enjoy your time in the sun without worrying about the effects of harsh chemicals!
